About the presenter
Harriet started her PhD at the University of Western Australia in 2016. The focus of her research is to develop marine spatial planning approaches within Indigenous Protected Areas in the Northern Territory. Specifically her research will explore how to appropriately incorporate Indigenous values and socio-ecological resilience within an anticipative framework which makes spatial planning recommendations in light of future socio-ecological change.
Using an interdisciplinary approach, her research will combine both empirical ecological data and traditional ecological knowledge to address critical data gaps and incorporate Indigenous values. It will also include a vulnerability assessment, a spatial assessment of socio-ecological resilience, utilisation of traditional ecological knowledge as a tool for habitat mapping, and scenario analysis to determine the possible implications of different management strategies. She intends for her research to provide comprehensive spatial management.
