About the presenter
I am an ecologist working as a Research Associate at UNSW in the lab of Prof Emma Johnston. During my PhD I started using molecular methods to investigate the impact of contaminants on sediment microbial communities and their functions. I am currently involved in two major projects: 1. the potential influence of mining on the Torres Strait; 2. the impact of wastewater effluents on the water quality of the Hunter River. I am fascinated by all things ecological, in particular microbial communities as they are the major drivers of the world's biogeochemical cycles and therefore play a large role in regulating environmental conditions and remediating contamination.
